I provide individual psychotherapy and a range of consultation services to adults 18 years and older.
When faced with life’s unavoidable stressors, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. The struggles of day to day life can often leave individuals feeling frustrated, hopeless, and powerless to work towards change. I enjoy helping clients feel understood and overcome fears that have been preventing them from living life to its fullest. Sometimes simply knowing that the worst case scenario won’t destroy us makes a daunting goal seem more attainable.
My approach to therapy is integrative, including elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as well as Relational Theory. By working with me, you will find that I focus on creating a balance between warm, empathetic support and motivational encouragement to help clients achieve those tasks that feel impossible. It is important to me that my clients leave each session feeling hopeful and with a better understanding of themselves and their environment. I especially enjoy working with young adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and relationship/family stress.
The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the President. You realize that you control your own destiny. - Albert Ellis
The first two therapy sessions are intake appointments in which information is gathered about each client’s presenting concerns, family history, and treatment goals. At the end of intake, clients and I will work together to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to meet their individual needs. The course of treatment, including session length, frequency of appointments, duration of care, and therapeutic approach will vary depending on each client’s personal needs and interests.
An approach to therapy that focuses on the connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Through the use of CBT, clients will learn to identify problematic thoughts and understand how these thoughts have been contributing to certain feelings and behaviors. Clients will also learn a variety of coping skills that can be used to make these connections and develop healthier behavior patterns.
An approach to therapy that steers away from the notion that people need to change in order to feel better. ACT (pronounced “ACT") focuses on learning how to become more accepting of undesirable thoughts and feelings while committing to behaving in ways that align with one’s personal values. In ACT-based sessions, clients will learn mindfulness strategies to increase awareness of the present and gain insight into the values that guide their behavior patterns.
